The LibertyKite® traction wing revolutionises sailing by harnessing wind power to provide efficient, eco-friendly propulsion.
Designed for both sailboats and motorboats, the LibertyKite® captures wind energy and converts it into forward thrust, reducing reliance on traditional fuel-based engines. Its self-stabilising design ensures consistent performance across various wind conditions, making it both reliable and easy to use.
The LibertyKite® is designed to enhance your sailing efficiency and enjoyment. Below is a guide to how it works:
Phase 1
Preparation
To begin, position the traction lines on the deck, adjusting them to the ideal lengths for takeoff (1 metre ahead and 3-4 metres behind).
Examine the kite’s condition, tightly seal the air intake pockets, and connect the lines to the kite’s ears.
Secure the lines to the boat’s mooring cleats, or for more precision, utilise the optional rings.
Launch
Grasp the kite by its leading edge and face the first air intake into the wind, allowing the leading edge to slowly inflate.
Fill the second air intake, then gently release the kite towards the rear section.
Gradually loosen the tension on all the lines allowing the kite to rise and settle, ultimately stabilising at around a 45-degree angle relative to the water’s surface.
Phase 2
Adjust
To ensure the LibertyKite® remains stable, maintain parallel alignment of the two lines.
Key factors to monitor include the distance between the deck attachment points and their alignment to the apparent wind.
The kite can be directed by modifying the lengths of the lines and the positions of the deck attachment points. Optional, friction rings are available for precise positioning.
To keep the boat heading upwind, reposition the deck connection points aft and downwind. Moving them forward and upwind will make the boat bear away.
Phase 3
Retrieve
It’s easy to retrieve the LibertyKite®.
Simply, let one of the lines go and draw the kite back to the boat using the other.
In light winds, this can be done without the kite touching the water. However, if it does land on the surface, it will float and not take on water.
Mastering the use of the LibertyKite® ensures a smooth and enjoyable sailing experience. By following these steps, you can ensure optimal performance and safety on the water.
